Costa Rica Day 1 Getting There

After getting our daughter off to school, we made it a priority to still get to the gym for one last weight workout before our vacation.  I ran a quick 2.5 miles on the elliptical, completed a weight routine, showered, and finished packing. Sean had a few business loose ends to tie up, then we were on our way. The plan was to drive to Palm Coast FL where his mom would drive us to the Orlando airport. All was going well, till it wasn’t. Somewhere on i95 north of Jacksonville our radiator decided to blow. Sean is pretty knowledgable and has always done the work on our cars, a quick diagnosis, and we see that there is indeed a crack in the radiator. We had a one gallon jug of water in the van. Once it cooled enough he poured it in and hoped we could make it 6 miles to the next exit. Not quite. We went about 2 miles before it over heated again. We would need to keep adding water to get us safely off 95, but we didn’t have anymore. Looking at our phone maps we could see a body of water about one mile ahead. Sean set out with every empty bottle we could find in the van. This is one of the only times that I was not cursing about the kids leaving their empty bottles strewn about. Within 30 minutes Sean returned. He proceeded to tell me that the body of water was tidal and since it was low tide so he was not able to reach any of it. I had been praying that our situation was just a hiccup and we would still make it to the airport for our scheduled 9:45pm flight. It was now around 4:30 and my GPS says we are still 3 hours from the airport. Sean continues on with his ‘quest for water’ story, to tell me that even though low tide kept him from getting water, he looked around and in the woods just beyond a fence, he sees a discarded aquarium. Yes, you read that right. An aquarium! Standing upright, filled to the top with fresh rainwater! Hmmm… I felt that in some devine way we would make it. He had gathered up more littered bottles from road side trash and filled everything he could. Now we had enough water to make it to the next exit. He had called his brother, Matt to let him know our delimmea. He said he was on his way and would do what he could to get us to Orlando in time. We limped our minivan off of 95 to a nearby gas station and found a place to park it. Within an hour Matt came rolling in, we hopped in and in minutes we were again headed south. Our GPS was showing traffic at every route. We were going to give it our best shot, or else we would be looking at purchasing new plane tickets in the morning. The planets aligned, prayers were answered (with the answers I wanted) and traffic moved out of our path as Matt dropped us off at the he airport, exactly one hour before our departure time. Ahhhh…that was close, but how cool it is to know that Someone is looking out for us?  I am now even more excited to see what is in store for us on this trip. I love the adventure and rolling with even the unexpected.
