Plane Leaves Hours Before Volcano Erupts and Closes Airport.

Other than sore muscles from hiking and heavy eyelids from sleep deprivation on a red eye flight, we had an uneventful travel day back to Tybee. That is until we arrived home and started seeing the news notifications that we had just missed the eruption of Turrialba Volcano, just north of San Jose. Within a few hours of our flight the skies were filled with ash and the airport was closed. As much as we would have liked to stay in Costa Rica, we really love our life and community here on Tybee. Both of us are rested and ready for the island life we have become accustomed to. We stopped by Ava’s school to pick her up as we arrived onto the island. I was greeted by several teachers and parents welcoming me home. Then we stopped by our little IGA grocery store, where, Matt, the best butcher ever,  gives us a big welcome home. After filling our arms with an armfull of groceries we’re greeted by other friends who have followed our journey blogs.

We were both ready to get back to our kids and the fun weekly rituals we have here. Stuff like Monday Mandolin Mayhem, Tuesday Open Mic, Wed Jam Night, Name That Tune, and those are just the week nights. Then its time for the weekend when the traditional social gatherings start! This weekend is the Irish Heritage Parade and from Friday – Tuesday is the St Paddy’s festival in Savannah.

There really is nothing in the world like being part of such an amazing community.
