Arrived at Key West Day 2

Tuesday 1/11/16

The end of our first day on travel, around 11:30pm, we finally arrived at the Savannas Park and Campground in Ft. Pierce Florida. It was late and the gate was closed. We called the after hours check-in number and no one answered.  Luckily, another camper staying there pulled up in a truck behind us and entered the access code that opened the gate.

We followed through the electric powered barrier and followed the paved road to what appeared to be the camping area. We found a vacant spot near the restrooms and assembled our tent in a matter of minutes. The air was chilly and I quickly unrolled my bedding and was asleep in no time. The girls opted to recline in the van for the night. After Sean enjoyed a relaxing nightcap of Irish whiskey, he was soon snuggled up next to me.

A restful night was enjoyed by all and just before sunrise we were ready to keep rolling south. I did a quick search on my phone for breakfast near me, and found great reviews for a little cafe only a two miles up the road. I knew we made the right choice when our server, Melinda had hot coffee in front of us before the menus arrived. JJ Plum II is the name of the joint, so if you are ever in Ft Pierce, I highly recommend it!

We decided to continue our trip by taking the scenic route down the coast, most of the day we spent on A1A enjoying the coastal views and seeing how the 1% live as we passed miles and miles of multi million dollar mansions and boats as we traveled through the coastal neighborhoods of Palm Beach, Ft Lauderdale and other South Florida communities.

After a filling chipotle lunch, we decided to take the more direct route so we would arrive into the keys with some daylight left.

We were we welcomed to Boyd’s Campground at 6:30 and found our little slice of waterfront property for the next two weeks.

The girls met at the pool house for movie night while Sean and I ran into town for groceries from the closest Publix (where shopping is a pleasure) We placed a Chinese carryout order so we would not have to set up our kitchen in the dark.

The winds were whipping at 18 mph while we slept peacefully in our small tents.
