Thursday 1/14/16

Rain drops rolled from my tent onto my head as I emerged from my night time cocoon into the late morning. Extended sleep is something that I seldom take the pleasure of indulging in. This morning was different, I think I actually slept about 9 ½ hours…I guess that’s a sign that I have really been able to relax.

Sean and I enjoyed coffee from our new french press coffee pot. Over our ancient Coleman three burner gas stove, I made breakfast for everyone. Hot scrambled cheesy eggs with sliced ham and grilled toast. After cleaning up, I assembled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for us to eat during our daily trip to the library.

Kyleigh needed to buy a copy of the Odyssey for school. So we located the Key West Bookstore. What an awesome find! I could just lose myself for hours there, we will definitely return during our stay. They had one copy of The Odyssey left, so she snatched it up, then we walked two blocks to the library. Luckily we found a convenient parking space between the two locations.

The library was a little quieter today. But we still encountered two year olds and the rainbow xylophone and librarians that don’t practice using inside voices.

The girls got most of their work done in our two hour parking allotment.

The rain was never a heavy downpour, but just a light drizzle through the day. We were able to walk a few miles around town, checking out Duvall St, Mallory Square and several other historic sites.

We had heard about the Key West chickens, and they really are everywhere. They just roam wherever they please and are pretty fun to watch.

We made our daily stop to Publix (where shopping is a pleasure) and found easy to heat up foods for dinner. Pot roast, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon apples and oreo cookies.

To pass the time before going to bed, we each tapped into our inner child and colored in coloring books for an hour before breaking out the Uno cards.

The rain has held off this evening, thankfully! As the forecast had called for high winds and thunderstorms.

  1. We used to travel to Key West every year and have been to the Key West Book Store many times. We tent camped in the keys over 30 years ago when our children were about 4 and 8. Your children will always have wonderful memories of your adventures!
